Can we fit your roofline in winter?

Here at Roofline Solutions, we’re often asked whether we can fit roofline during the winter, and the answer is, yes, we can. We work right around the year, so this is no problem at all for us.

However, if you have any issues with your roofline, we encourage you to tackle them sooner rather than later. This is because if left unresolved, a damaged roofline can lead to a host of problems, such as extensive water damage. Once winter sets in, any existing problems with your roofline are likely to get worse too, for two main reasons:

  • The weather. Winter comes with snowy/icy weather, which means harsh winds and the potential for ice and snow, all of which can exacerbate any roofline issues.
  • Temperature. Colder temperatures can cause water in the gutters to freeze, which can lead to old and badly fitted gutters breaking away from the fascia boards. So, it is better to check and repair/replace them before this happens.

So, although we are more than happy to work on your roofline during the winter, we encourage you to tackle any issues before then, if possible.

Checking your roofline in winter

White gutters and fascia on snowy garageIf you would like to check your roofline during the winter, we urge you to follow best health and safety practices when doing so. There are a few things to look out for too:

  • Fascias, soffits and bargeboards which have paint peeling off them.
  • Any rot on your fascias
  • Water staining in the soffit
  • Guttering coming away from the fascia board
  • Leaking gutters

Upon discovery of these issues, we do not recommend you carry out the work yourself. Only a professional will be able to identify the extent of the issue and determine if your roofline needs repairing or replacing.

Keeping your gutters clear in the winter

A gutter blocked with leaves and twigsWinter is also the most important time of year to ensure your gutters are clear because blockages can lead to pools of water and the subsequent issue of gutters breaking away that was discussed earlier. However, we can take care of clearing your gutters for you.

Once the autumn leaves have fallen, it is also the most likely time that your gutters will become blocked. So, we recommend having them cleared once this happens. Alternatively, we can fit balloon leaf traps to the top of your downpipes before the autumn leaves fall, which significantly reduces the chance of them causing a blockage.
